The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) has announced its firm opposition to President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed mass deportation campaign, according to remarks made by Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán, D-Calif., on Friday.

Barragán, who chairs the all-Democrat caucus, warned that such deportations would have detrimental effects on the U.S. economy.

In response, Tom Homan, Trump’s pick for “border czar” and former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), dismissed the opposition during a Saturday interview on *Fox News Live*. “Game on,” Homan declared, criticising Barragán’s stance and suggesting she should resign from Congress.

He emphasised that ICE enforces immigration laws enacted by Congress, implying the caucus should support law enforcement efforts rather than criticise them.

Trump has pledged to launch the most extensive mass deportation campaign in U.S. history following his victory in the 2024 presidential election. He has signalled his readiness to declare a national emergency to execute the effort, leveraging military assets to assist in deportations.

A recent post on Truth Social from Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton predicted such actions, with Trump affirming its accuracy. Fitton’s post stated, “GOOD NEWS: Reports are the incoming @RealDonaldTrump administration prepared to declare a national emergency and will use military assets to reverse the Biden invasion through a mass deportation program.” Trump responded enthusiastically, “TRUE!!!”

Support for Trump’s proposed policy appears to have traction among many Americans. A Fox News poll conducted in October revealed that 67% of registered voters favour deporting illegal immigrants to their home countries.

As Trump prepares to take office, this contentious issue will likely remain at the forefront of national debate, with sharp divides between his administration and Democratic lawmakers.
