Former and future First Lady Melania Trump has secured a lucrative $40 million deal with Amazon to license a documentary about her life, including appearances by her husband, Donald Trump, and their son, Barron.
The documentary, directed by Brett Ratner, known for his work on Rush Hour, is set for release later this year. There are speculations that it could lead to additional projects in the future.
The deal, first reported by Puck News, grants Amazon the rights to various projects related to Mrs Trump over the next four years. Disney reportedly bid $14 million but was outbid by Amazon’s substantial offer.
Sources close to the agreement say that Melania Trump, who is executive producing the project, has become increasingly comfortable with public exposure, particularly regarding her image and speaking in front of audiences.
She is more confident and has taken complete control of her public image, which she knows is worth millions,” one insider revealed, adding that Melania is ready to be compensated for her work on the documentary.
The deal also includes a profit-sharing agreement, allowing Melania to earn from the project’s backend. Donald Trump was also revealed to have influenced its structuring.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is said to have taken a personal interest in the documentary, which has reportedly helped improve his relationship with the Trump family.
The documentary promises an intimate look at the life of the private first lady, whose controlled public image has only fueled public curiosity.
“By being removed from constant public exposure and being mysterious, she’s driven up both interests in her everyday life, which has driven up her price,” one source explained.
Melania’s new project follows the success of her best-selling memoir Melania, which she released late last year.
