The footage shows Amesbury throwing a punch without any apparent provocation, causing the victim to fall into a car park. Following the incident, the Labour Party announced Amesbury’s suspension pending an investigation. A spokesperson for the party confirmed that Amesbury has been assisting Cheshire Police with their inquiries.

In a statement on social media, Amesbury claimed he felt threatened during the confrontation, stating, “Last night, I was involved in an incident that took place after I felt threatened on the street following an evening out with friends.”

He expressed his commitment to cooperating with police investigations while maintaining his dedication to serving the constituents of Runcorn and Helsby.

Cheshire Police reported that they had “voluntarily interviewed” a 55-year-old man regarding the incident, who has since been released pending further inquiries. The police were called to the scene at approximately 2:48 a.m. on October 26 following reports of an assault.
