Discovery and Investigation
CLONMEL, Co. Tipperary — Tributes have poured in for midwife Grace Aseidua Benyin, whose body was discovered earlier this week, nearly a month after she went missing from Clonmel.
The mother of four was found by a walker in a rural area near the Holy Year Cross, about 4km south of Clonmel, on Monday. The discovery brought relief to her family and local community after weeks of uncertainty.
A postmortem examination was conducted at University Hospital Waterford by State Pathologist Dr Heidi Okkers. Gardaí confirmed that the 36-year-old Ghanaian national was not a victim of foul play, describing her death as a “personal tragedy.”
Grace had last been seen in Clonmel on the morning of November 21st, prompting widespread searches and community vigils. Residents also set up a Facebook page, “Find Grace Benyin,” to coordinate efforts and keep the public informed.
Community Tributes
The online tribute described her as “a beacon of light” to all who knew her, praising her dedication to family, her profession, and the wider community.
Grace was remembered as “a devoted mother, loving wife, compassionate midwife, cherished daughter, loyal friend, and pillar of the community.”
“In the true Ghanaian sense, Grace cared not only for her own children but extended love and guidance to many,” the tribute read. “She lived with generosity, kindness, and a gentle spirit, always guided by faith and service.”
Her presence was said to bring comfort, laughter, and reassurance to those around her. While the community mourned that she could not be found alive, they expressed gratitude that she could be returned to her family for a dignified farewell.
The family noted the profound impact of her loss on her children and husband, describing her as a source of guidance, support, and love. “As a family and as a community, we will miss Grace profoundly,” the tribute said.
Support and Recognition
Special thanks were extended to the Tipperary Rescue Team and the Carrick-on-Suir Team for their tireless efforts in searching for Grace, as well as to community members who provided support and encouragement throughout the ordeal.
The walker who found Grace was remembered for their role in concluding the search, with the family wishing them comfort and peace following the traumatic experience.
A vigil to celebrate Grace’s life will be arranged in the near future, with organisers requesting privacy for the family to grieve and gather strength.
Community members have been urged to honour Grace’s memory by celebrating her kindness, laughter, and unwavering dedication.
“In Ghanaian tradition, a good name never dies,” the tribute read. “May Grace’s legacy continue to inspire compassion, unity, and care among all of us.”
The family also expressed gratitude to those who sent messages of sympathy and support, encouraging everyone to act with empathy and kindness toward those who are grieving.
Grace’s death has left a significant void in Clonmel and across Tipperary, where her professional contributions as a midwife and her commitment to the community were widely recognised.
The impact of her passing has been felt across the local health and social care sectors, highlighting the vital role she played in supporting families.
M10News will provide updates on vigil arrangements and ongoing tributes as they are confirmed.
