Eva Longoria Leaves U.S. with Family After Trump Wins 2024 Election, Calls America a ‘Dystopian Country’
Eva Longoria has revealed that she left the United States with her family following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.
The ‘Desperate Housewives’ star opened up to ‘Marie Claire’ for its November 2024 cover story, where she discussed her decision and her concerns for the country.
“I’m privileged,” Longoria admitted in the interview, explaining that she has the resources to relocate while most Americans do not. “I get to escape and go somewhere.
Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.” Born and raised in Texas, the 49-year-old actress divides her time between Spain and Mexico with her husband, José Bastón, and their 6-year-old son, Santiago.
Longoria, who previously called Los Angeles home, explained how her perspective on life in the U.S. shifted. “I had my whole adult life here,” she shared. “But even before [the pandemic], it was changing.
The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to sit on California, it feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
An outspoken supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s opponent in the November 5 election, Longoria also voiced her dismay over Trump’s return to the White House. She even spoke on Harris’s behalf at the Democratic National Convention in August.
“The shocking part is not that he won,” Longoria said of Trump, 78, known for his role as the host of ‘The Apprentice’. “It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”
Trump’s legal controversies were highly publicised during the election season. In May, he was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. He was also found liable for sexual abuse, defamation, and financial fraud, which fuelled criticism from opponents like Longoria.
Reflecting on Trump’s initial win in 2016, when he defeated Hillary Clinton, Longoria recalled feeling “depressed” and questioning the value of her vote.
“It was like, ‘Does my vote matter? Am I making a difference?’” she remembered. “I was so untethered to the core of what I believe because I truly believed that the best person wins. And then that happened, and I was like, ‘Oh, wait. The best person doesn’t win.’”
Looking toward Trump’s upcoming second term, Longoria, now the host of *Searching for Mexico*, warned of turbulent times ahead. “If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” she stated, expressing apprehension over what lies ahead for Americans.
