Euston Station Evacuated Over Suspicious Package Amid Back-to-Back Security Scares

London’s Euston Station was evacuated after a suspicious package was found, just 24 hours after a similar incident shut down Gatwick Airport.

The Metropolitan Police conducted a controlled explosion at Euston as a safety measure. A cordon was established around the station, one of the UK’s busiest transport hubs, and passengers were evacuated over fears of a potential bomb threat.

The Met said in a statement: “A controlled explosion has been carried out by specialist officers, and the police cordons have now been lifted.” Earlier, police confirmed that they were investigating reports of the suspicious package and had implemented cordons as a precaution.

The nature of the package remains unclear, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether it was part of a hoax or posed a genuine threat to public safety.

This marks the second incident in just 24 hours where police have had to neutralise a suspected explosive device. On Thursday, a similar situation unfolded outside the US Embassy in Nine Elms, London.

The prior incident occurred at Gatwick Airport’s south terminal on Friday morning. Reports of a suspicious package led to a large-scale evacuation and the deployment of a bomb disposal unit. The terminal, expecting around 100,000 passengers that day, was closed to new travellers for more than four hours.

Gatwick’s south terminal reopened around 3 PM after the police cleared the security alert. Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team declared the package safe and handed control of the terminal back to airport authorities.

The police later confirmed that two individuals detained during the investigation had been released and allowed to continue their journeys.

Authorities continue to investigate whether the incidents at Euston and Gatwick are connected, raising concerns over heightened security risks at key transport hubs.
