Madrid police are on the hunt for two men and a woman after a 39-year-old British tourist was robbed and sexually assaulted in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Incident occurred near a nightclub in a central Madrid square. The tourist was seen appearing disoriented and under the influence of alcohol.
The trio, described as a Spanish woman and two men, initially offered to help the tourist.
Instead of assisting, they led her to a nearby bench and proceeded to rob her of all her belongings, including cash, jewellery, and her mobile phone. After the theft, one of the men and the woman fled the scene, leaving the second man with the victim.
The remaining man then sexually assaulted the woman on the bench. His assault was interrupted when a passerby noticed the incident, prompting him to flee.
Locals raised the alarm around 3 a.m., and the tourist was taken to a hospital for medical tests.
Authorities are continuing to investigate, with the case being handled by the UFAM, the National Police’s specialized unit focused on assisting female victims of crime.
Police will interview the victim later today and comb through the area’s CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
At this stage, no arrests have been made.
