Donald Trump Pledges Government Role for Elon Musk if Elected
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to create a government efficiency commission and appoint Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), as its head, should he win the presidential election.
Trump made this statement during an appearance at the New York Economic Club, where he praised Musk, referring to him as a “nice, smart guy” and stating that Musk had given him “complete and total endorsement.”
The proposed commission would be tasked with conducting financial and performance audits across all branches of the federal government to recommend significant reforms. Trump emphasised the need for such a commission, stating, “We need to do it—can’t go on the way we are now.”
Musk, who has endorsed Trump and conducted a favorable interview with him on X in August, reacted positively to the proposal. He shared a video of Trump’s remarks on X, commenting, “This is badly needed.”
This public announcement follows weeks of speculation about Trump’s plans to form such a commission, although Thursday marked the first time he publicly mentioned Musk’s potential role.
Trump also used the opportunity to criticize his political opponents, blaming the current administration for economic challenges, including rising gasoline, grocery, and mortgage costs.
He attributed the nation’s “economic disaster” to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
