Sir Keir Starmer has strongly condemned Iran’s actions, accusing the nation of attempting to “harm innocent Israelis” and destabilise the region.
“We stand with Israel and recognise her right to self-defence in the face of this aggression,” the prime minister declared.
He further urged Iran and its allies, including Hezbollah, to halt their attacks.
In a firm statement of solidarity, Starmer emphasised the UK’s support for Israel’s right to security, describing Israel’s demand for the protection of its citizens as “reasonable.” He also expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, warning that the region is “on the brink” and stressing the potential dangers of miscalculation in the ongoing conflict.
Addressing the situation in Lebanon, Starmer described it as “grave” and issued an urgent call for British nationals to leave the area immediately. “If you have the means to leave, the time is now,” he advised.
When questioned whether the UK is prepared to provide military support to Israel, Starmer avoided giving a direct answer. He referred to the crisis as an “evolving situation,” reiterating the UK’s unwavering support for Israel but offering no commitment on potential military involvement.
