A 67-year-old woman tragically died aboard an easyJet flight from Tenerife to Liverpool after suffering a cardiac arrest on March 25.
Despite immediate intervention from fellow passengers, including a nurse and two others who performed CPR for nearly an hour, she could not be revived.
The aircraft was forced to divert to Santiago–Rosalía de Castro Airport in northern Spain, but the woman was pronounced dead before medical teams could provide further treatment.
Upon landing, passengers disembarked while police and paramedics boarded to handle the situation.
One of the passengers who assisted in the emergency efforts later spoke to the Liverpool ECHO, saying, “I spoke to her husband afterward and told him how sorry I was. We did everything we could to save her.” He described how cabin crew quickly provided oxygen and a defibrillator while he, a nurse, and a physiotherapist took turns administering CPR.
In a statement, an easyJet spokesperson confirmed the incident: “Flight EZY3366 from Tenerife to Liverpool on March 25 diverted to Santiago–Rosalía de Castro after a passenger required urgent medical attention.
The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain our top priority. Our trained crew and an onboard medical professional provided immediate assistance. We are in contact with the family and offering our full support during this difficult time.”
The airline emphasized that its staff followed all necessary protocols and expressed condolences to the woman’s loved ones.
