The Ritz in Paris, an iconic luxury hotel, has recently made headlines after a Malaysian tourist reported a missing diamond ring worth £637,000 (€750,000) from her room.
The woman suspected a hotel staff member had stolen the precious jewel, which contained a 6.51-carat diamond and two platinum baguettes.
Regardless, they will be relieved that the solution to the puzzle has proven to be a lot more commonplace than a prior jewel-related dispute five years ago.
In September 2018, a Saudi princess reported to Paris police that hundreds of thousands of euros in jewellery had been taken from her suite at the prestigious Place Vendôme hotel.
There was no sign of a break-in, and the things were not kept in a safe. It is unknown whether any prosecutions were eventually brought.
Armed burglars had shattered the Ritz’s windows the previous January and stolen jewellery worth millions of euros that was on display. The treasure was eventually recovered, and three guys were apprehended shortly after.
However, the mystery was soon solved when the Ritz management announced that the ring had been found in the bag of one of their vacuum cleaners. The hotel thanked their employees for their professionalism and integrity in the search, and the ring’s owner is reportedly satisfied with the outcome.
