US House Speaker Mike Johnson Warns of Potential Mobilization of House Republicans Following Trump’s Guilty Verdict
House Speaker Mike Johnson, representing Louisiana, pledged retaliation following the guilty verdict against former President Trump, stating that House Republicans would employ all available means.
Speaking on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream, Johnson underscored the House’s oversight powers and indicated their intent to utilize them against perceived corrupt prosecutors. However, he stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law in their actions.
“We are the party of the rule of law. Disorder is not a conservative principle. While we will fight back vigorously, we will do so within the bounds of the law,” Johnson asserted.
He reiterated the conservative commitment to preserving institutions, emphasizing the significance of the justice system in upholding the country’s foundations.
Former President Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in a Manhattan court elicited outcry from conservatives. While some conservatives have advocated for prosecuting Democratic politicians in response, Johnson urged adherence to legal processes.
Johnson pointed to efforts by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, who has scheduled hearings with Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and lead prosecutors in Trump’s case. Trump’s sentencing is slated for July 11.
Trump has leveraged his conviction to rally supporters who perceive his prosecution as politically motivated. His campaign has seen a surge in fundraising, with an estimated $150 million anticipated in the aftermath of his conviction.
