Former President Donald Trump used Truth Social, his new social media platform, to share a video of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, in which he applied various Snapchat filters to both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The video posted on Friday showed Biden and Harris with distorted faces, pigtails, Pinocchio noses, and dog ears.

Trump also added his commentary, calling Biden’s speech “angry, polarising, and hate-filled”. He accused Biden of lying and losing it and said he would never fix immigration or the border crisis.

The video released by Trump elicited mixed reactions from the public. Some found it amusing, while others viewed it as disrespectful and immature. Opinions on Biden were also divided, with some agreeing with Trump’s views and others disagreeing.

There were different interpretations of Trump’s intentions, with some considering his actions an attempt to undermine Biden’s credibility and popularity. In contrast, others perceived it as expressing his frustration and sense of humour.

Biden’s speech, delivered on Thursday, focused on his administration’s achievements and challenges in the first year of his presidency. He highlighted the progress made on the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, infrastructure, climate change, and foreign policy. He also urged Congress to pass his Build Back Better plan, which includes social spending and tax reforms.

Biden did not mention Trump by name, but he did criticise the former president’s role in the January 6th Capitol riot, which he called “a dark and tragic day in America’s history”. He said democracy was threatened, and Americans had to work together to preserve it.

Trump, who was banned from Twitter and Facebook after the riot, launched his social media platform,

Truth Social, in October 2023. He claimed the platform would “stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech” and “restore free speech in America”. However, the platform has faced several technical and legal issues and has been criticised for spreading misinformation and inciting violence.
