Koh Samui, Thailand – A 24-year-old Russian actress lost her life in a tragic accident at a popular beauty spot on the tourist island of Koh Samui.
Kamilla Belyatskaya was swept into the sea by a giant wave while sitting on a rock overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.
The incident was captured on video, showing the young woman sitting on a pink foam yoga mat near the water’s edge.
Moments later, a powerful wave struck, dragging her into the churning sea. Witnesses reported seeing her struggle against the strong currents before she disappeared from view.
Belyatskaya, who hailed from Novosibirsk, Russia’s third-largest city, was reportedly visiting the island with her boyfriend. Her body was recovered over the weekend, approximately two-thirds of a mile from the spot where she was last seen.
The actress had expressed her deep affection for Koh Samui in social media posts, referring to it as her “home” and “the best place on earth.” She frequently visited the island and had a special attachment to the rocky beach at Lad Ko Viewpoint, where the tragedy occurred.
In one of her final posts, Belyatskaya described her joy at being there:
“I love Samui so much. This rocky beach is the best thing I’ve ever seen. Thank you, universe, for me being here right now. I’m thrilled. I’m happy!”
On the day of the incident, Belyatskaya drove to the viewpoint in a red car and retrieved her yoga mat before heading to the rocks to watch the waves. Soon after, onlookers saw her mat floating in the violent seas, a grim sign of what had unfolded.
Rescue teams arrived at the scene 15 minutes after she was swept away, but they were unable to save her due to the rough conditions.
Koh Samui, Thailand’s second-largest island, is a popular destination known for its stunning beaches and scenic views. The tragedy has highlighted the risks associated with venturing too close to unpredictable coastal waters.
Authorities have not released further details about the incident but have reiterated the importance of safety precautions at coastal locations.
