Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering a move to Europe, with sources suggesting they’ve embarked on a house hunt in Portugal as their time in the United States hasn’t fully met their expectations.

This insight comes from former palace staff member Grant Harrold, who notes the couple’s possible shift reflects a broader return toward their roots in the UK.

According to reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have invested in an upcoming high-end development at CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, approximately 81 miles south of Lisbon.

The couple is said to have spent around $4.7 million on one of the planned residences within the 722-acre project, including upscale amenities and access to natural landscapes.

Harrold, who previously served as King Charles’ personal butler, shared with The Post that this potential move could signal a growing closeness to their UK ties. “There are many people who move to the US and later decide to return, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Harry and Meghan are thinking about Europe,” Harrold commented, adding that “maybe life in the States wasn’t what they thought it would be.”

He also indicated that the couple’s potential residence in Portugal might support a future reconciliation with the royal family. While the specific reasons behind choosing Portugal are unclear, their social connections and the country’s Mediterranean climate, similar to their current home in Montecito, California, could be part of the appeal.

“There’s no specific reason to pick Portugal, but it’s not uncommon for royals to live abroad,” Harrold remarked, referencing royals who historically lived outside the UK, such as Princess Margaret’s time in Mauritius.

He explained that Portugal could allow Harry and Meghan to join a long-standing tradition of royals establishing homes overseas.

A move to Portugal may bring logistical questions, including European Union citizenship, which would enable the couple to travel freely within the Schengen Area.

Such a transition could facilitate their access to European countries, which would be a convenient benefit if the couple wishes to spend more time on the continent.

One aspect of their lives that might be impacted by the move is their array of business ventures. Meghan’s lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, has yet to be officially launched, with reports suggesting that a trademark dispute could delay its release.

Harrold believes, however, that the couple’s business interests “can very much continue wherever they are in the world,” despite speculation that their professional collaboration may be under strain.

Ultimately, Prince Harry and Meghan’s possible shift to Portugal presents a fresh chapter in their lives while continuing to spark speculation on both sides of the Atlantic about their evolving family and professional dynamics.
