Las Vegas, NV – Jennifer Lopez took the stage at a Las Vegas rally for Vice President Kamala Harris, passionately defending Puerto Ricans and women while denouncing former President Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric.
Her remarks came after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s recent viral racist jokes, which sparked outrage among the Latino community and advocates for equality.
In her speech, Lopez highlighted her criticisms of Trump’s behaviour, referencing a moment at Madison Square Garden to emphasise her concerns.
“He has consistently worked to divide us. At Madison Square Garden, he reminded us who he is and how he feels,” Lopez said of the former president on Thursday.
“It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans that were offended that day. It was every Latino in this country. It was humanity and anyone of decent character.”
Lopez advocated for female empowerment, emphasising the crucial role of women and the Latino community in the upcoming election.
“I believe in the power of women. I believe that women have the power to make a difference in this election. I believe in the power of Latinos. I believe in the power of our community. I believe in the power of all our votes,” she stated.
The 55-year-old singer also supported the Harris campaign on Sunday following Tony Hinchcliffe’s inflammatory remarks at a Trump rally in New York City.
In response, Lopez joined forces with fellow Latin music icons Bad Bunny and Ricky Martin, sharing a video from the Harris campaign that underscored Trump’s perceived indifference toward Puerto Rico and its people.
With Election Day approaching, Lopez has been actively encouraging fans to vote. Earlier this month, she shared a video with the organisation When We All Vote, which she co-chairs.
“Your vote is your voice and your power, and our voices are louder together,” Lopez urged in a message shared on October 10 when We All Vote is a nonpartisan initiative to increase voter turnout nationwide.
Lopez also added humour to her advocacy efforts, participating in a lighthearted music video titled “Get Your A** Out & VOTE” to inspire voter participation. Last week, she shared the clip to remind Americans to get to the polls.
In a separate Instagram post, Lopez shared a video from her memorable 2020 Super Bowl halftime show performance, where she donned a cape showcasing both the Puerto Rican and U.S. flags.
Her post accompanied a powerful caption, “LET’S GET LOUD … Make your voice heard in ONE WEEK. VOTE … Nov 5th … Born in the USA … PUERTO RICO .”
Lopez’s dedication to the political cause includes a prominent performance at President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021. Her endorsement of Vice President Harris comes only days after fellow superstar Beyoncé voiced her support for Harris at a rally in Houston.
Lopez expressed that her message was not about fame but a personal appeal for her children’s future.
Following in the footsteps of other high-profile endorsements, including Taylor Swift, who publicly backed Harris in September, Lopez’s call to action has further spotlighted the influential role of celebrities in galvanising voters.
