Ohio Police Release Disturbing Footage of Woman with Fur on Her Lips After after being caught ‘eating a cat’
Authorities in Canton, Ohio, have arrested Allexis Ferrell, 27 after disturbing footage emerged showing her allegedly engaging in animal cruelty.
On August 16, police were called by neighbours who reported a woman with “fur on her lips and blood on her hands.” Video evidence released by the police shows Ferrell smashing a cat’s head with her foot and then consuming the animal.
The arrest occurred just days after former President Donald Trump made controversial remarks during a presidential debate, falsely alleging that Haitian immigrants were “eating pets” in Springfield, Ohio, which is about 172 miles from Canton. While Ferrell is a native of Canton and not an immigrant, the incident has sparked outrage and further fuelled controversy following Trump’s comments.
Police bodycam footage from Ferrell’s arrest shows an officer asking her to smile for the camera and question her about eating the cat. In the footage, Ferrell appears unresponsive to the officer’s questions but eventually says, “I don’t know” when asked why she killed the animal.
She has been charged with cruelty to companion animals, a fifth-degree felony, and is currently held in Stark County Jail with a bond set at $100,000. Ferrell is scheduled for a competency hearing on October 15 and has entered a plea of not guilty because of insanity.
Canton police spokesperson Dennis Garren emphasised that Ferrell is a lifelong resident of Canton and is not connected to the immigrant community.
According to Karen Graves, Springfield’s Strategic Engagement Manager, the city has seen no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed by immigrants.
Graves clarified that there have been no verified instances of illegal activities such as squatting, littering, or pet harm attributed to immigrants.
Springfield Mayor Bob Rue criticised the rumours, stating they detract from pressing issues like housing, education, and healthcare needs. The claims about pets being harmed by Haitian migrants were first raised at a city commission meeting on July 30, where residents expressed frustration over the increasing number of Haitians in the area and alleged instances of animal abuse.
The controversy highlights ongoing tensions and misinformation surrounding immigration and local crime, with authorities and community leaders working to address and debunk unfounded claims.
