North Carolina Groom Shot Dead in Suspected Road-Rage Attack Hours After Wedding, Leaving Bride and Daughter in Shock
A North Carolina groom was tragically shot and killed in a suspected road rage incident just hours after his wedding, leaving his bride and daughter to witness the horrific event.
Tyrek Burton, 37, had only been married for seven hours when the shooting occurred on October 12 at the Barber Park Event Center in Greensboro, where he and his bride, Kiara Holloway, were celebrating with family and friends.
The Greensboro Police Department responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 9 p.m. and discovered Burton shot and bleeding in the parking lot.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to family members, an unknown man confronted Burton at the park, accusing him of cutting him off while driving.
Brittany Burton, the groom’s sister, explained to ABC 7 that her brother had initially left the park, believing his bride had already gone home. After calling him to say she was still there with family, Burton made a U-turn, inadvertently cutting off the man, who followed him back to the park.
Moments later, the unidentified gunman shot Burton in front of several witnesses, including his bride and one of their daughters.
The assailant fled the scene, leaving Kiara Holloway a widow and their four daughters without a father. The couple had been together for 16 years before finally tying the knot.
“We were having the time of our lives, and it’s like in the blink of an eye, it was all just stolen away from us,” Brittany reflected, remembering her brother as someone who could light up a room with his smile.
Brittany hopes that surveillance cameras in the park and testimonies from witnesses, including one of Burton’s daughters, will lead to the capture of the shooter. “This was at a public park, and there were multiple eyewitnesses, including one of his daughters, and it was done in front of his wife,” she stated.
Burton’s mother, Carolyn Burton, also expressed her anguish, demanding justice for her son’s death and insisting that his case should not go unresolved.
“I demand justice. I demand it and don’t want to wait years for it. He doesn’t deserve what he got,” she told WLBT.
The Post has contacted the Greensboro Police Department for further comment on the investigation.
Burton, who grew up in Roxboro with his sisters, is remembered for his generosity and infectious smile, as noted on a GoFundMe page for his family.
The newlyweds had planned to celebrate their honeymoon in Charlotte before the tragic incident occurred.
