Former U.N. Ambassador and recent Republican primary candidate Nikki Haley graciously responded to President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement that she would not be part of his administration.

Taking to social media on Saturday, Haley expressed her well-wishes for Trump, saying she hopes he finds success in his return to the White House.

“I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations,” Haley wrote in a post on X. “I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years.”

Trump had announced earlier on his Truth Social account, clarifying that neither Haley nor former Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo would be included in his cabinet.

“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” Trump posted. He added, “I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

Speculation had been circulating for weeks about potential appointments to Trump’s new cabinet, with Haley and Pompeo frequently named as possible picks. However, Trump’s post put those rumors to rest, clarifying his plans as he prepares to assume office.

During her own bid for the Republican nomination, Haley tried to position herself as a solid alternative to Trump, presenting a different vision for the party. Nevertheless, as Election Day approached, she ultimately supported Trump’s candidacy, publishing an op-ed titled “Trump Isn’t Perfect, but He’s the Better Choice.”

In her article, Haley acknowledged her disagreements with Trump but stressed that she found his leadership preferable to the policies of Vice President Kamala Harris. “I don’t agree with Mr. Trump 100% of the time,” Haley admitted. “But I do agree with him most of the time, and I disagree with Ms. Harris nearly all the time. That makes this an easy call.”

Haley’s response to Trump’s decision reflects a diplomatic approach. She maintains her commitment to conservative ideals while supporting Trump’s agenda. Her message signals that she remains focused on party unity and shared goals, even as Trump’s second administration begins to take shape.

As the new administration begins planning, Haley’s public statement reminds us of the balancing act faced by many Republicans in balancing loyalty to Trump while defining their own political futures.
