Former Manchester United and England striker Mason Greenwood is reportedly being monitored by Premier League clubs following a strong season in France with Marseille.
The 23-year-old forward has scored 20 goals in 35 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, reigniting his career after leaving Manchester United in 2023.
Greenwood’s exit from Old Trafford came after the club conducted a six-month internal investigation into his conduct. The inquiry was launched after the player was arrested in January 2022 over allegations relating to material shared on social media.
Greenwood was later charged with rape and assault, though prosecutors dropped the charges in February 2023.
Mixed Reaction in France
Despite his scoring success, Greenwood’s time at Marseille has not been without controversy.

He faced public criticism over his work ethic, with Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi and sections of the club’s fanbase expressing dissatisfaction.
Last month, supporters at the Stade Vélodrome unveiled a large banner urging him to “get moving,” reflecting the growing scrutiny of his commitment on the pitch.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Greenwood has not ruled out a move. While he has been linked with clubs in Spain, Italy, and Saudi Arabia, it is believed that his preference is to return to northern England.
However, campaigners in the UK have voiced concerns about a possible return to English football.
Premier League Interest Despite Controversy
Despite the anticipated backlash, reports indicate that at least two Premier League clubs are considering a move for Greenwood.
The identities of the clubs have not been disclosed, but insiders suggest they are monitoring the situation closely.
Greenwood, once regarded as one of Manchester United’s brightest talents, scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club.

He had been under contract until 2025 but departed two years early after United concluded he would not continue his career at Old Trafford.
Internationally, Greenwood had earned recognition under England manager Gareth Southgate.
However, a return to the Three Lions is now unlikely after the player opted to switch his international allegiance to Jamaica.
Reaction from Advocacy Groups and Fans
Greenwood’s departure from Manchester United was welcomed by domestic abuse advocacy groups, including Women’s Aid. In a statement, the organisation said: “We know that today’s news from Manchester United that Greenwood will be moving on will be a relief for many survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.”
The group highlighted the influence footballers have on public opinion, stressing the importance of how clubs handle allegations of abuse: “Players are often idolised, and how such cases are treated can shape societal understanding of what is accepted and tolerated.”
The Manchester United Supporters Trust also expressed relief over the club’s eventual decision. “Since the deeply distressing initial allegations surfaced, this episode has been allowed to drag out for far too long as the club carried out an investigative process,” the group said in a statement.
They also criticised the lack of communication with fans during the review process. “The complete lack of consultation with fans, even concerning process, added fuel to the fire,” they noted.
“Whilst the speculation and discussion in the last couple of weeks has been profoundly unhelpful and reflected very poorly on the club, it is clear that they have in the end reached the right decision,” the Trust concluded. “We are relieved that this matter can now be put behind us and will be working with the club to ensure lessons have been learned from this very troubling episode.”
