A man has been charged following a bomb hoax outside the US Embassy in London after a suspicious package was found near the building.

On Friday morning, November 22, police were alerted to the package, which led to a controlled explosion near the embassy in Nine Elms. The package’s discovery prompted immediate action, and Daniel Parmenter, 43, of Kildare Terrace, London, was arrested on Sunday after officers executed a warrant to search his home.

Parmenter has since been charged with a bomb hoax. He appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court earlier today and was remanded in custody. The 43-year-old will face a hearing at the Old Bailey on December 23.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police clarified that there are no links between this incident and other recent reports of suspicious packages across the city.

The embassy was placed on lockdown after the suspicious package was found, and some visitors to the building were held inside for nearly an hour while the authorities managed the situation. Witnesses reported hearing a “loud bang” when the package was detonated.
