Labour achieved a historic landslide victory in the General Election, delivering the Conservatives their worst defeat.
Keir Starmer is set to form a new government after securing a majority with 326 seats, with results still coming in.
During his victory speech, Starmer emphasised the need to “renew the” ideals that hold this country together” and speak of a renewed hope for the nation. “The sun, light of hope, is shining once again on a country with the opportunity after 14 years to get its future back,” he said.”
This victory marks the first Labour government since Gordon Brown’s lBrown’sip in 2007.
Conservative leader Rishi Sunak is expected to resign shortly following one of the most significant losses in the party’s history. Starmer, who has led the opposition for four years, will become Labour’s Labour’sPrime Minister.
His emotional speech at the Tate Modern moved many supporters to tears, including his wife, Victoria, who stood by his side.
Starmer was re-elected in his Holborn and St Pancras constituency with 18,884 votes, despite a 17.3% drop from the 2019 election. Reflecting on his upbringing, he highlighted the security and hope his parents instilled in him, promising to rekindle that hope for working-class families across Britain.
“We said “we would end the chaos, and we will.
We said we would turn the page, and we have. Today, we start the next chapter, begin the work of change, the mission of national renewal, and start to rebuild our country. Thank you,” Starmer” declared.
Deputy Leader Angela Rayner and Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves were also re-elected, with Reeves set to become the UK’s first Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The new government plans to prioritise a £1.3 billion investment in NHS services and the creation of a Border Security Command to combat small boat criminal gangs.
At the party’s launch in Manchester in May, Starmer stated, “The choice” at this election is another five years of chaos under the Conservatives or change with Labour.
It’s time to stop the chaos, turn the page, and start rebuilding Britain.” Exit PO” predicted Labour would win 410 seats while the Conservatives would secure 131.

The Conservatives lost several prominent figures, including Grant Shapps, Education Secretary Gillian Keegan, and Justice Secretary Alex Chalk. However, Labour faced challenges as well.
Former leader Jeremy Corbyn retained his Islington North seat as an independent, and backlash over Labour’s Labour’sn Gaza led to losses in Blackburn, Leicester South, and Dewsbury and Batley to independents.
Labour did achieve notable gains, such as reclaiming Rochdale from George Galloway through former journalist Paul Waugh. Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer defeated Shadow Cabinet member Thangam Debbonaire in Bristol Central.
In other significant developments, Reform UK secured its first General Election seats, with Lee Anderson becoming the party’s party and Nigel Farage finally winning a seat in Parliament after seven unsuccessful attempts.
Jeremy Corbyn was re-elected as an independent MP with 24,000 votes, significantly outpacing Labour candidate Praful Nargund, who received 16,673 votes.
