Biden Acknowledges Being ‘Knocked Down’ in Debate After Trump Calls Him ‘Broken Down Pile’
President Joe Biden admitted on Thursday that he “screwed up” and was “knocked down” in the first debate against ex-President Donald Trump, who subsequently called Biden a “broken down pile of c**p.”
In a candid conversation with WAUK radio host Earl Ingram, Biden acknowledged his poor performance but expressed his determination to continue his presidency despite some calls for him to withdraw. “The fact of the matter is that I screwed up.
I made a mistake,” Biden said. “But I learned from my father when you get knocked down, just get back up. And you know, we’re going to win this election. We will beat Donald Trump as much as we did in 2020.”
When WURD host Andrea Lawful-Sanders asked if Americans should be worried following his stumbling and, at times, incomprehensible debate performance, Biden responded with a firm “no.”
He laughed off the incident, saying, “I had a bad debate. But 90 minutes on stage does not erase what I’ve done for three and a half years.”
Biden’s remarks came shortly after Trump shared a video on Truth Social in which he ridiculed both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who some Democrats believe might replace Biden if he steps down. In the clip, Trump, sitting next to his 18-year-old son Barron on a golf cart, boasted about his debate performance.
“How did I do with the debate the other night? I kicked that old, broken-down pile of c**p,” Trump said. “He just quit, you know – he’s quitting the race… and that means we have Kamala. I think she’s going to be better. She’s bad. She’s so pathetic.”
Trump continued his attacks, questioning Biden’s ability to handle international leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and the president of China. “Can you imagine dealing with Putin, the president of China – a fierce person, a fierce man, an adamant guy,” Trump said.
Biden is now working to salvage his reelection campaign with media interviews and public appearances. He is scheduled to speak with ABC News anchor George Stephanopolous on Friday morning, with the interview airing that night. Additionally, Biden will hold a press conference next week at the NATO summit he is hosting in Washington, DC.
