Denise Nolan has finally tied the knot with her fiancé, Tom Anderson, after almost five decades together. The couple, who first met in 1977 when Denise performed with The Nolans, and Tom was the drummer at the London Rooms, celebrated their union in a heartfelt ceremony on the iconic Blackpool promenade.
Their love story began when Tom joined Denise’s band after she pursued a solo career. The pair started dating in 1977, and Tom proposed in the 1990s. Despite their long engagement, they chose to wait until now to make it official.
Surrounded by loved ones, including Denise’s sisters Coleen, Linda, Anne, and Maureen, the couple exchanged vows in a memorable ceremony.
Photos shared with OK! Magazine captures the joyous occasion, showing Denise radiant in a beaded champagne gown, complemented by a striking blue blazer and matching fascinator. She carried a bouquet of yellow and white flowers, perfectly matching Tom’s buttonhole as he stood beside her in a sharp grey suit.
The Nolan sisters beamed with happiness, posing with the newlyweds against a backdrop of illuminated letters spelling “love.”
Denise revealed that Tom’s diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease six years ago was a critical factor in their decision to marry. Parkinson’s, a progressive nervous system disorder, often begins with a tremor in one hand and can worsen over time.
Denise explained that they didn’t want to wait until Tom’s condition deteriorated further, opting instead to celebrate their love while they could still enjoy the moment fully.
Personal losses also influenced their decision. Denise’s sister Bernie passed away from cancer in 2013, reminding Denise of the importance of cherishing the time with loved ones. Initially planning a small ceremony with just a witness, the couple expanded their celebration after Denise’s sister Linda urged them to include the family, transforming the intimate event into a more extensive gathering of about 55 guests.
Denise expressed gratitude for her family’s support, particularly Linda, who has been incredibly generous despite her health challenges. Reflecting on the wedding day, Denise shared a moment of panic when she realized they had forgotten the expensive flowers Linda had bought. Her brother rushed back to retrieve them, ensuring no detail was overlooked.
To honour her late sister, Bernie, Denise incorporated a unique recording of their family singing Frank Sinatra’s “You, My Love” mixed with “One Hand” from West Side Story, played during Bernie’s wedding. This heartfelt tribute added an emotional touch to the celebration.
The evening reception was filled with joy and dancing, with a DJ playing Sinatra tracks and hits from The Nolans’ catalogue. The celebration of Denise and Tom’s enduring love, surrounded by family and friends, marked a beautiful chapter in their long journey together.
