The harrowing incident unfolded when deranged gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, injuring former President Trump and fatally striking Comperatore.

Helen Comperatore, Corey’s grieving widow, spoke from their Sarver home, recounting the devastating loss and Corey’s final moments. “He’s my hero,” she said tearfully, recalling his last words urging his family to take cover. “He just said, ‘Get down!’ That was the last thing he said.”

The Comperatores, childhood sweethearts soon to celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary, had attended the rally to support their political candidate as a family. “Me and the kids were all there as a family,” Helen shared. “He was just excited. It was going to be a nice day with the family.”

Corey Comperatore, 50, was a former Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company chief known for his selflessness and devotion to his loved ones. “He was a very loving husband,” Helen reflected. “He was a simple man, but he always put his wife and kids first. I did nothing here. I didn’t lift a finger. He did everything.”

During the rally, chaos erupted as gunfire rang out, injuring two others, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, who are expected to recover from critical wounds.

Despite the tragedy, Helen expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community and beyond. A GoFundMe page set up by the family has raised nearly $1 million, a testament to Corey’s impact and the community’s solidarity.

Reflecting on political implications, Helen asserted that while she supports Trump and holds no animosity towards Joe Biden, she squarely places blame on the gunman. “I don’t have any ill will towards Joe Biden,” she stated firmly. “He didn’t do anything to my husband. A 20-year-old despicable kid did.”
