A man and a woman have been arrested following the tragic discovery of a newborn baby boy found deceased in a trash bin.
The woman, believed to be the infant’s mother, is facing charges for failure to report the death in connection with the distressing incident that unfolded in South Florida this past January. Her co-accused is also charged with the illegal disposal of a body.
Discovered on January 7th by a roofing company worker, the full-term baby boy, with his umbilical cord still attached, was found nestled in a reusable shopping bag within the trash bin. The worker stumbled upon the heartbreaking scene after noticing a foul odour emanating from the vicinity of an apartment complex. Promptly alerting authorities, the worker’s swift action was recounted in a detailed Hollywood police affidavit.
Using video surveillance, law enforcement traced the owner of a vehicle that had stopped near the trash bin. Subsequently, text message exchanges between the man and woman, coupled with DNA evidence extracted from the shopping bag, aided in identifying the mother. According to details outlined in the affidavit, an autopsy conducted on the infant revealed no signs of trauma or injury.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the baby’s death remain under investigation, authorities are awaiting further testing to ascertain whether the infant was born alive or stillborn.”
