Labour MP for North East Somerset and Hanham Dan Norris, has been arrested on suspicion of multiple serious sexual offences, including rape, child abduction, and misconduct in a public office, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed.
Details of the Allegations
The investigation was launched in December 2024 after another police force referred allegations of non-recent child sex offences against a girl.
Most of the alleged offences date back to the 2000s, but authorities are also examining a separate rape allegation from the 2020s.

Norris, aged in his sixties, was arrested on Friday (April 4) and later released on conditional bail while inquiries continue. The case is being handled by Operation Bluestone, a specialist unit dealing with rape and serious sexual assaults.
Police Statement
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said:
“This is an active and sensitive investigation, and we urge the public not to speculate to ensure our enquiries remain uncompromised. The victim is receiving specialist support.”
Labour Party Response
The Labour Party acted swiftly, suspending Norris and withdrawing the party whip following news of his arrest. A Labour spokesperson stated:
“Dan Norris MP was immediately suspended upon being informed of his arrest. We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.”
Norris, elected in 2024, has not yet issued a public statement.
Legal and Political Implications
The case has sent shockwaves through Westminster, raising questions about safeguarding and accountability in public office. Legal experts caution that the investigation is in its early stages, and no charges have yet been filed.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of protecting the victim’s privacy and allowing due process to unfold.
