Trump Mocks Kamala Harris’ Debt-Laden Campaign, Urges GOP to ‘Do Whatever We Can to Help Them’ as VP Faces $20M Debt
President-elect Donald Trump has taken a public jab at Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign finances, suggesting with tongue-in-cheek that the GOP may need to “help” Harris’ debt-ridden operation. On Saturday evening,
Trump posted on X, expressing surprise over the campaign’s financial struggles after its massive fundraising efforts.
“I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over,” Trump wrote.
He noted that the Harris team is now under pressure from vendors seeking overdue payments. He added that the GOP could consider offering a hand “for the sake of desperately needed UNITY. “
Trump then contrasted Harris’ financial challenges with his budget approach, noting, “We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was ‘Earned Media,’ which doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Following President Biden’s unexpected exit from the race, Harris raised over $1 billion in campaign contributions. Yet, despite this record-breaking haul, her campaign ended with a $20 million debt.
Lavish spending, particularly on large-scale campaign events, has been cited as a primary cause of the campaign’s financial woes.
In particular, Harris’ election-eve concerts, featuring A-list performers like Jon Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, reportedly racked up expenses equal to the campaign’s debt.
Vendors and staff members now worry about receiving full payment for these high-profile, costly events.
Harris’ campaign also appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, reportedly spending six figures to create a set for the interview.
The viewership fell short of expectations, especially compared to the record-breaking audience Trump received on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.
Additionally, the campaign allocated $1 million to Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions, another investment that strained campaign funds. Speaking anonymously to The Post, staffers have described these celebrity-driven expenses as a significant burden that drained the campaign’s resources.
Inside sources revealed concerns about prioritising these high-profile appearances, pointing out that while they brought public attention, they came at a significant cost.
Several staffers expressed frustration over the campaign’s management, noting that financial decisions left them struggling to pay essential bills.
As Trump and his team prepare to take office, his comments underscore the differing financial strategies between his campaign and Harris’. While he has noted the GOP’s strong financial position, Harris’ team faces questions about its management, and Trump’s remarks have only intensified the spotlight on her campaign’s debt.
