Kamala Harris’ Family Expresses Fears for Her Safety as Election Day Nears Amid Rising Tensions
Kamala Harris’ family is increasingly concerned for her safety as the 2024 presidential election approaches, her cousin Sherman Harris revealed on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Monday.
Sherman, who lives in Brown’s Town, Jamaica, shared his family’s apprehensions over former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric, calling it “disrespectful.” He added, “The entire family is on edge, and we are very nervous for her.” When asked about his concerns if Harris doesn’t win, he affirmed his worry but noted that their “happiness and exuberance” for her achievements would remain.
Sherman Harris is Vice President Harris’s second cousin. His father, Newton Harris, was the brother of Kamala’s grandfather, Oscar Harris. Sherman has long supported Harris and celebrated her vice presidential inauguration in Jamaica with family in 2021, describing her as “brilliant.”
With Election Day less than 24 hours away, Harris is slated to attend rallies in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, although the latter was moved for safety concerns, *The Evening Standard* reported. Many voters are also uneasy about potential political violence surrounding the election. A poll by AP/NORC found that around 40% of Americans fear violent attempts to contest election results.
The Secret Service shares concern over candidate security, stating it operates under “heightened protective intelligence” this election. Protective measures have intensified around critical sites in Washington, D.C., including the White House, U.S. Capitol, and Harris’ official residence at the Naval Observatory, as the capital braces for potential unrest.
