Reflecting on her decision to film the documentary, Megan told People, “I didn’t want to do it at first because I was so in a dark place and didn’t want anybody to see me. I was just not happy.

I couldn’t even pull myself out of bed half the time.” She felt that people typically viewed her as a strong woman, which made sharing her struggles even more challenging. However, she ultimately decided to take control of her narrative, stating, “I just really got tired of seeing other people tell my story.”

Megan first gained attention in 2018 with her breakout EP ‘Tina Snow’ and the hit single ‘Big Ole Freak’, which marked her entry onto the Billboard Hot 100.

Managed by her mother, Holly Thomas, her ascent in hip-hop was both a personal and professional journey, which took a devastating turn in 2019 with her mother’s passing from brain cancer. Megan’s star power continued to rise with the 2020 hit ‘Savage’, which gained Grammy recognition after a high-profile remix with Beyoncé.

However, the spotlight also brought significant personal challenges, notably the fallout from a July 2020 shooting involving Tory Lanez. In August 2023, Lanez was sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of shooting Megan in the foot during a dispute, marking a painful chapter in her life.

In her documentary, Megan reflects on these trying times, admitting she felt fragile and uncertain about her future. “But I just kicked myself in the butt,” she told ‘People’. “I just got up and… I’m me right now. And I’m not saying I’m 100% OK, but I’m not where I was then.”

Hours before the premiere, Megan filed a lawsuit against YouTuber and social media personality Milagro Gramz, accusing her of cyberstalking and acting as a “mouthpiece and puppet” for Lanez. In the lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, Megan’s attorney, Alex Spiro, claimed that Gramz orchestrated a campaign to “denigrate, belittle, insult, and spread false statements” about the rapper in connection with Lanez.

She emphasised the need for accountability regarding the false narratives propagated by self-styled bloggers posing as journalists. “It’s unacceptable behaviour, and these individuals need to understand there will be repercussions for recklessly posting lies and defamatory falsehoods,” she added.
