Ali Bastian, the 42-year-old actress best known for her role as Becca Dean on Hollyoaks, has revealed she has been diagnosed with stage two breast cancer.
The diagnosis came after Bastian, who was breastfeeding her daughter Isabella, discovered a lump.
Initially, doctors suspected a blocked duct, but after further tests, the cancer diagnosis was confirmed. Bastian is now undergoing weekly chemotherapy and is set to have a mastectomy and radiotherapy early next year.
In an interview with OK! magazine, Bastian described the diagnosis as a “total shock,” admitting she is still trying to process the news. Her husband, David O’Mahony, shared the emotional impact the diagnosis had on their family, describing it as “unfair” and a “sledgehammer” of devastating news.
Despite the challenges, Bastian remains positive and has praised the medical team supporting her through her treatment.
She also credited her former Hollyoaks co-stars, including Sarah Jayne Dunn, Carley Stenson, and Jodi Albert, for their support.
Bastian, who recently moved from London to rural Ireland with her husband and two daughters, is staying hopeful about the future and looking forward to returning to acting once she has completed her treatment.
