Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his fiancée, Jodie Haydon, may delay their wedding until after the upcoming federal election, according to reports.
The couple, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day this year, face challenges in finding time for their wedding amidst the Labor leader’s busy schedule.
The exact date of the next federal election has yet to be confirmed, but it must be held by May 2025. The Sydney Morning Herald cited “senior government sources” who stated that scheduling the wedding before the election would be difficult due to Albanese’s commitments.
Albanese announced their engagement in a heartfelt Instagram post, sharing a photo of the couple and the simple caption, “She said yes.” The Prime Minister proposed to Haydon during a romantic dinner at the Italian & Sons restaurant in Canberra.
Pasquale Trimboli, the restaurant’s owner, noted that Albanese seemed slightly nervous that evening, hinting at the significant moment.
Since their engagement, Haydon has accompanied Albanese on official visits, including a state visit to Washington, D.C., where they attended a White House dinner hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr Jill Biden.
The couple first met at an event in Melbourne in early 2020, bonding over their mutual love for the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team.
As their relationship blossomed, it led to the engagement earlier this year, with Albanese reportedly having personally designed the engagement ring.
