Trump Slams Media for “Dishonest” Distortion of His Quotes in Dr. Phil Interview
Former President Donald Trump has criticised the media for allegedly misrepresenting his statements during a recent interview with Dr. Phil. The interview, which will air in segments on Tuesday and Wednesday, features Trump addressing comments that he claims were taken out of context.
In a preview clip shared on X by Dr. Phil, the TV personality, you highlighted how media outlets often portray Trump’s statements negatively. Dr Phil noted that Trump’s comment, “You’re only gonna have to vote one time, you elect me you’re only gonna have to vote one time,” has been misinterpreted.
During a Turning Point Action event in July, Trump had remarked, “You won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians,” and later clarified, “You’ve got to get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again.
We’ll have it fixed, so it’s good you won’t have to vote.” Some critics suggested this implied he intended to eliminate future elections if re-elected. Trump, however, provided additional context, asserting that he merely meant to emphasise mainstream the importance of the current election.
“I said to the Christians, we’ve gotta win this election. If we win this election, I’ll straighten everything out in less than four years by a lot,” Trump explained. “Then you don’t have to… it doesn’t mean we’re not gonna have elections! You’ll have elections, but you have to vote this time, because we have to win. This is the most important election in the history of our country.”
Dr Phil asked Trump if his statement conveyed the importance of voting in the current election, to which Trump affirmed, “Of course, that’s what I meant.”
Trump also addressed another controversial remark from a December town hall on Fox News’ “Hannity,” in which he joked about being a “dictator” for one day to implement policies like border control and energy expansion. He clarified that the comment was intended humorously and should not be taken literally.
“I said jokingly on Sean Hannity; he’s a great guy; I said, ‘No, Sean, I wanna be a dictator for one day because I’m gonna get going with Drill, Baby, Drill, and I’m gonna strengthen the borders to a level as you’ve never seen, I only wanna be, and after that, I’ll never be a dictator,’” Trump recalled.
He criticized the media for cutting his statements out of context and taking his comments out of their intended humorous setting. “And I said ‘one day,’ because I wanna do the energy and I wanna strengthen the border, one day, and it was said with a chuckle, the audience laughed, I laughed, we all laughed,” Trump said.
“But they take it, cut it, and then they cut it, and it says, ‘I wanna be a dictator.’ These are very dishonest people with whom we’re dealing. Very dishonest people. Bad people.”
When asked if his statements had been misrepresented, Trump responded, “All you have to do is watch it.”
