Former President Donald Trump has broadened his transition team by adding former Democrats Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, marking a significant expansion of his coalition across party lines.
Brian Hughes, a senior advisor for the Trump campaign, announced the development to Fox News Digital, expressing enthusiasm about Kennedy and Gabbard’s addition.
Hughes stated, “As President Trump’s broad coalition of supporters and endorsers expands across partisan lines, we are proud that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard have been added to the Trump/Vance Transition team. We look forward to having their powerful voices on the team as we work to restore America’s greatness.”
Kennedy, who initially ran for president as a Democrat before switching to an Independent campaign, suspended his bid last week and endorsed Trump.
This move is notable given Kennedy’s Democratic family legacy. Meanwhile, Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic Representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district and a veteran, endorsed Trump after identifying as an Independent.
In her endorsement, Gabbard stated, “I am proud to stand here before you today, whether you’re a Democrat, a Republican or an Independent.
If you love our country, as I do, if you cherish peace and freedom as we do, I invite you to join me in doing all that we can to save our country and elect President Donald J. Trump and send him back to the White House to do the challenging work of saving our country and serving the people.”
Gabbard, who previously competed against Kamala Harris in the 2019 Democratic presidential primary, has been recruited by Trump to assist with debate preparations for his upcoming September 10 debate against Vice President Harris at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia.
RFK Jr. also shared his perspective on “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) through social media, reflecting on its historical significance.
He described MAGA as a vision of a vibrant, innovative nation with a robust middle class and a commitment to freedom and justice.
Kennedy noted his discussions with Trump supporters and the Trump campaign, highlighting a shared vision of restoring a prosperous and dynamic America.
This strategic addition to Trump’s team underscores a concerted effort to appeal to a diverse range of voters and consolidate support across the political spectrum.
