A 19-year-old British tourist was allegedly raped during a night out in Lisbon, according to a police report. The teenager reported that she was attacked by an employee in the backroom of the K Urban Beach nightclub, a popular riverside venue near the centre of the Portuguese capital.
Her friends alerted the police just before 5 am on Thursday. The young woman was taken to a hospital and treated by a specialist doctor.
The nightclub’s manager, Paulo Damaso, addressed the incident in local media, stating, “We have already launched an internal inquiry, and as part of that inquiry, the worker in question will be interviewed.” Damaso claims the sexual relationship was consensual but added, “Whether that is the case or not, it’s something we repudiate for having allegedly occurred within our installations.”
Police have confirmed that they are investigating the alleged rape. A spokesperson said, “We are investigating an alleged rape in which the victim is a 19-year-old British woman who appears to have been on holiday in Portugal.”
K Urban Beach nightclub features a dance area with a swimming pool, a rooftop bar, and an exclusive area where guests can reserve tables. The club describes itself online as the “hottest night club in Lisbon where the party never stops” and encourages revellers to “get ready for a night filled with energetic beats and epic DJ sets that will keep you dancing all night long.”
As the investigation continues, the police are working to gather more information about the incident. The nightclub’s internal inquiry aims to clarify the circumstances and determine the appropriate actions regarding the employee involved.
