UK Teacher Sentenced to 6.5 Years for Abuse of Schoolboys
A 30-year-old teacher, Rebecca Joynes, broke down in tears as she was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for sexually abusing two schoolboys, Manchester Crown Court heard.
Joynes, who had joined their high school through the Teach First recruitment scheme in 2018 after studying sports and exercise science, was found guilty of grooming her victims from the age of 15.
During the sentencing, Joynes, wearing a gold necklace and black padded jacket with blonde highlights, visibly showed her emotions as the boys’ parents watched.
One of the victims, identified as Boy B, described feeling coerced, controlled, and manipulated by Joynes.
He recounted the emotional struggle of realizing the abuse he had experienced and the difficulty of testifying against someone with whom he had a child.
Joynes’ actions and impact were detailed in court, highlighting the profound effect on the victims and their families. The case underscores the severe consequences of abuse and the legal repercussions faced by perpetrators in such cases.
