Manchester United Receives Upgraded Offer for Mason Greenwood Amid Ongoing Transfer Discussions
According to recent reports from Italy, Marseille has emerged as the frontrunner in the competition to secure Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.
The 22-year-old, who completed a loan spell at Getafe last season, is poised to depart from United during the summer transfer window.
Greenwood has been out of action for United since January 2022 following legal issues, which were subsequently resolved, with all charges dropped by February 2023.
Despite initial considerations for his return to the first-team squad, United faced significant public opposition.
Having previously attempted an unsuccessful loan bid last summer, Lazio recently made an offer of €20 million plus a 50% sell-on clause, which was turned down by United, who are holding out for a fee closer to £40 million.
United intends to finalise Greenwood’s transfer before pre-season training on July 8. Under the leadership of new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Marseille is reportedly optimistic about securing Greenwood, having presented an attractive offer.
Earlier linked with Juventus, Greenwood’s impressive performance at Getafe in La Liga—where he scored eight goals and contributed six assists—has garnered substantial interest from European clubs despite initial concerns regarding his legal past.
