YouTuber Yung Filly Arrested in Australia Over Alleged Sexual Assault
Yung Filly, real name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, has been arrested in Australia on serious charges relating to an alleged sexual assault. The 29-year-old YouTuber and rapper was apprehended in Brisbane on Tuesday and extradited to Perth the following day.
The allegations stem from an incident on September 28, when a woman in her 20s accused Barrientos of sexually assaulting her in his Perth hotel room. This came after a performance at Bar120 nightclub in Hillarys on September 27.
Barrientos has been charged with four counts of sexual penetration without consent, three counts of assault, and one count of impeding a person’s normal breathing or circulation by applying pressure to their neck.
During a hearing at Perth Magistrates Court, Barrientos was granted bail under strict conditions.
He is banned from contacting the alleged victim and prohibited from discussing the case on social media, where he has 3.2 million followers.
He must also report to police daily and post a $100,000 cash surety.
His next court appearance is scheduled for December 19, and he must remain in Perth until then.
ABC Australia reported that prominent barrister Seamus Rafferty SC is defending Barrientos.
Police prosecutor Julius Depetro opposed bail, citing the YouTuber’s media attention and social media influence, emphasising the power imbalance between the parties.
Rafferty argued that without bail, his client could face up to two years in Perth’s maximum-security Hakea prison, known for its harsh conditions.
The court was presented with photos of the alleged victim’s injuries, which the prosecutor described as evidence of violent acts beyond what could be considered consensual.
Yung Filly has been in the public eye since launching his YouTube channel in 2013 and later embarking on a music career. He has released several singles, including Grey, which charted at number 31 in the UK.
His latest track, Tempted, was released in August. He has also gained mainstream success with TV appearances on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C and Would I Lie to You? he hosted the Mobo Awards alongside Chunkz in 2022.
Barrientos was on tour in Australia, performing in cities such as Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, and the Gold Coast before his arrest.
