Young voters increasingly turn away from President Biden in favour of former President Trump, a trend attributed to factors such as inflation, a challenging job market, and Biden’s stance on Israel.
In a recent New York Times-Sienna survey, 46% of voters aged 18-29 preferred Trump over Biden, who garnered only 43% of the youth vote. Similarly, a CNN poll from last month revealed Biden trailing Trump by 11 points among voters aged 18-34, marking a significant shift from Biden’s 24-point lead among young voters in the 2020 election.

A former Biden supporter who now backs Trump, Annie Rogers, cited the bleak job market as a critical factor influencing her decision. Rogers highlighted recent graduates’ difficulties in finding employment, attributing her change in allegiance to the lack of progress under Biden’s presidency.
Inflation has also emerged as a significant concern, with monthly inflation rates approaching 10% during Biden’s tenure. While the situation has somewhat stabilized, high prices for essential goods like gas and food persist, prompting Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to warn of prolonged inflationary pressures.

Despite assertions from Biden allies that the economy remains robust, a Harris-Guardian poll indicates that more than half of Americans believe the country is in a recession, with many blaming Biden for the economic challenges.
Donald Trump is winning young people by double-digits, according to recent polls.
The exorbitant costs associated with higher education have further fueled disillusionment among young voters. James Carville, a Democratic strategist, lamented the prohibitive expenses of college tuition and housing, particularly for younger generations burdened by rising interest and insurance rates.
Biden’s handling of Israel’s conflict with Hamas has also alienated some young voters. His perceived stance on the issue prompted protests from Hamas-supporting American Muslims and college students, leading to a significant protest vote against Biden in the 2024 Democratic primaries.

Cameron Kasky, a Parkland High School shooting survivor and Broadway producer, expressed disappointment in Biden’s approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict. While he remains committed to voting for Biden in 2024, Kasky’s sentiment reflects a growing reluctance among young voters disillusioned with the current political landscape.
