INDIANAPOLIS — A woman has died after being shot in the early hours of Saturday morning on the west side of Indianapolis, authorities confirmed.
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to the 5500 block of Georgetown Road shortly before 3:00 a.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police discovered an adult female lying on the sidewalk with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The identity of the woman has not yet been released, pending formal notification of next of kin.
IMPD detectives launched an investigation at the scene and subsequently arrested a 25-year-old male suspect. He is now facing preliminary charges of murder in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspect’s name has not been disclosed at this time.
Police have not released further details about what may have led to the incident. Investigators are urging anyone with additional information to contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
