Woman Sent to Jail for Egging Teens on to Assault Black Girl Outside School

A woman has been sentenced to prison for inciting students to attack a young girl.

The incident occurred outside Thomas Knyvett College in Ashford, Surrey, on February 6th of the previous year. It was captured on video and shared on social media.

In the video, a 15-year-old black girl was subjected to physical assault, including having her hair pulled, being kicked, and dragged to the ground.

The footage also showed the woman, Winnie Connors, 40, shouting words of encouragement to the attacker, urging her to punch and kick the victim’s face.

The court was shown the video, which revealed that the victim suffered injuries such as bruises, cuts, and clumps of hair being forcefully pulled out, with her head even being stamped on. The assault only came to an end when teachers intervened.

Prosecutor Charles Langley described the attack as a group assault that was prolonged and persistent.

He also mentioned that there seemed to be a level of planning involved, as Connors arrived at the scene for what appeared to be a prearranged fight.

Langley further stated that the victim underwent counselling after the assault and experienced stress and loss of appetite.

However, it was noted that she has since made a full recovery.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, the girl expressed her embarrassment at the incident being recorded and shared on social media, causing distress to her and her family.

She described the experience as horrible and emphasized the emotional impact it had on her.

Connors’ defence counsel, Helen Dawson, acknowledged her client’s remorse and regret for her actions.

Dawson mentioned that Connors acknowledged the unpleasantness of the incident.

During the trial, Connors disputed the claim that the assault was pre-planned. However, Miss Recorder Lisa Goddard, addressing Connors, condemned her behaviour as disgusting.

Goddard stated that it was evident that a fight was anticipated, and Connors actively encouraged others to inflict violence on the victim.

The judge emphasized the severity of Connors’ words and criticized her for not intervening or showing remorse during the incident.
