A woman in her 20s was followed and sexually assaulted near Bournemouth Beach, prompting a police investigation.
The attack took place on Meyrick Road at approximately 7 PM on February 18. According to Dorset Police, the victim was approached by a man who made inappropriate comments before she attempted to flee towards Elizabeth Court.
As she entered an enclosed footpath, the suspect allegedly cornered her and touched her over her clothing. The assault was interrupted when a passerby heard the victim’s cries and intervened, allowing her to escape.
Authorities have since arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of sexual assault and stalking. Officers are now urging the bystander who intervened—and anyone who was with them—to come forward to assist with the investigation.
Detective Constable Merryn Matthews, of BCP CID, stated:
“A full investigation has been ongoing into this incident, and we are supporting the victim as enquiries continue. I am keen to speak to the member of the public who intervened, as they may have valuable information.”
