CCTV footage from Northampton’s Oriental Garden captures a diner surreptitiously placing her hair in her meal to evade paying the bill.
The video shows the woman discretely removing hair from her head and placing it on her plate while dining with a male companion.
After allegedly complaining about the “hair” in her meal and creating a scene, the woman and her companion reportedly left the restaurant without settling the £77 bill. The incident, occurring on April 28, follows a series of similar “dine and dash” occurrences across the country.

In response to the incident, Oriental Garden requires unfamiliar customers to pay when placing orders to prevent further losses. The restaurant owner recounted the incident to MailOnline, explaining that the hair appeared deliberately placed atop the meal. Despite the confrontation, the owner found solace in the event’s security footage.
Expressing frustration over subsequent dine-and-dash incidents and the financial strain on the restaurant, the owner lamented the challenges faced by the industry, particularly during difficult times. The Oriental Garden owner, who remained anonymous, revealed two additional dine-and-dash occurrences following the hair incident, amounting to nearly £200 in losses.
Echoing similar experiences, a worker from the nearby Mayflower Restaurant disclosed witnessing customers engaging in similar tactics to evade payment, particularly customers claiming to be from hotels.
This incident comes in the wake of Bernard McDonagh, 41, and Ann McDonagh, 39, from Port Talbot, Wales, facing fraud charges after a spree of dine-and-dash incidents totalling £1,168 across five restaurants. Additionally, the couple admitted to shoplifting items worth £1,017 from various retailers.
