A woman was reportedly abducted in Hove by a man who initially asked her for directions before forcibly dragging her into his vehicle.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, around 2 a.m., at the junction of Selborne Road and Church Road.
Sussex Police have arrested a 21-year-old man from Brighton in connection with the alleged kidnapping. Authorities said the suspect drove the car a short distance along First Avenue after taking the woman. She managed to escape and call for help.
Later that evening, police seized the vehicle, which was believed to be involved in the incident. The suspect has been charged with kidnapping, vehicle theft, and making off without payment.
Superintendent Petra Lazar addressed the local community’s concerns, saying, “It is understandable that this investigation has raised significant concerns within the local community.
We want to provide reassurance that a dedicated team has been working tirelessly to conduct thorough inquiries, which have now resulted in the arrest of a suspect.”
Lazar thanked those who had come forward with information and encouraged others to share any details they might have. “Big or small information could prove crucial to the ongoing investigation,” she added.
