A 23-year-old woman has died after falling into the water at Rogie Falls, a well-known tourist attraction in the Scottish Highlands.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the Wester Ross area at approximately 1.45pm on Saturday, following reports that a person had entered the water.
Despite prompt efforts by responders, Police Scotland confirmed that the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal,” a police spokesperson said.
Rogie Falls, located on the Black Water river near Contin in Ross-shire, is a popular stop for visitors exploring the scenic North Coast 500 route. The area draws tourists year-round for its dramatic waterfalls, forest trails, and viewing bridges often used to spot salmon leaping upstream.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, and it remains unclear how she came to fall into the water. Authorities are expected to conclude their investigation following the submission of a formal report to the Procurator Fiscal, which is standard procedure in sudden deaths in Scotland.
The tragic incident comes during peak travel season in the Highlands, when many areas see a surge in outdoor tourism. Safety officials often remind visitors to take extra care near fast-moving rivers and waterfalls, especially after rainfall when water levels can rise quickly.
