Wife of Senior House Republican Claims Husband Filed for Divorce After Affair
The wife of Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has accused him of having an extramarital affair with a younger woman, leading him to file for divorce last month, ‘The New York Post’ has learned.
In a group text message sent Wednesday to other lawmakers and reviewed by *The Post*, Camie Green alleged that her husband, 59, had been unfaithful to a 32-year-old woman.
According to her message, she had offered to reconcile, but Rep. Green insisted on proceeding with the divorce.
“I have offered reconciliation, and he wants nothing of it,” Camie Green wrote. “Satan has rewritten our marriage in his mind. I am being quite open about this as 1) I cherish the prayer of any who are willing, and 2) I want to make others aware of how readily available ‘predators’ are for our husbands.”
She added, “If my story can prevent this tragedy from happening to someone else, I will tell it.”
In her message, she claimed that the other woman involved worked for *Axios*, a media outlet. However, a cease-and-desist letter obtained by *The Post* shows that *Axios*’ in-house counsel refuted these allegations, calling them “false and per se defamatory.”
“Your message has not only caused this reporter considerable emotional distress, but it has also harmed her professional reputation,” Brian Westley, *Axios* content counsel, wrote to Camie Green. The letter demanded that she retract the statement, instructing her to send a follow-up text clarifying that the affair allegation involving *Axios* was incorrect.
Rep. Mark Green issued a statement confirming the divorce proceedings but requested privacy. “This is a difficult time for my family and me, and we are currently going through divorce proceedings. As this is a deeply private matter, I ask for privacy. I will continue to serve this district with all I’ve got, as I have the last five and a half years,” he said.
Camie Green’s message also delved into lawmakers’ struggles while working far from their families in Washington. She suggested that her husband’s behaviour changed as he became more entrenched in politics, accusing him of distancing himself from his faith and engaging in inappropriate friendships.
“Lawmakers can become intoxicated with power and adoration,” she wrote. “He pushed God out of his life, me out of his life, and developed friendships with other congressmen and women having affairs and getting divorces, drinking, parties, all while hosting a weekly Bible study in the basement of our home.”
Despite the difficult situation, she expressed her hopes for reconciliation but admitted that those hopes were fading. “I am still praying for him and hoping God will do a work in his heart, but my hope is dwindling. He is no longer wearing his wedding band, and his will is dug in,” she lamented.
As the divorce proceedings unfold, the Green family faces a highly publicised and painful chapter.
