West Ham United striker Michail Antonio is recovering after undergoing surgery for a lower limb fracture sustained in a car crash on Saturday.
The Incident occurred in Epping, Essex, during Storm Darragh, causing significant damage to Antonio’s Ferrari.
Thirty-three-year-old football player is currently in hospital observation, and the club is providing regular updates on his condition.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, West Ham United expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans and the football community.
The club also thanked emergency services, first responders, and the medical team for their swift action following the accident.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and extends heartfelt thanks to the emergency services and first responders who attended the scene,” the statement read.
The incident, which left Antonio trapped in his car, was swiftly handled by firefighters, who freed him by 1:45 pm. Essex Police have since confirmed that they are investigating the crash and are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage to assist with their inquiries.
Antonio, a beloved figure at West Ham since joining in 2015, has scored 83 goals for the club and helped secure the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2023.
