West Ham’s Michail Antonio Involved in Car Crash, But Stable; Club Issues Update
West Ham United forward Michail Antonio has been involved in a car crash, but the club confirmed that he is in a stable condition following the incident.
The crash occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Essex area, and the club released a statement providing an update on the 34-year-old’s condition.
“West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area,” the statement read. “Michail is conscious and communicating and is under close supervision at a central London hospital. At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect Michail and his family’s privacy.”
The statement concluded by confirming that no further comments would be made that evening, but the club promised to issue another update in due course.
Before the official statement, social media had been flooded with images of a heavily damaged silver Ferrari, believed to be Antonio’s car. The photos raised concerns among fans and the public regarding his condition.
Antonio, West Ham’s all-time Premier League top scorer with 68 goals, has been a key player for the club, featuring in all 14 of their Premier League matches this season. West Ham is scheduled to face Wolves in the Premier League on Monday evening, though it remains uncertain whether Antonio will be available for the match.
This is not Antonio’s first car crash. In December 2019, the West Ham forward was involved in an incident while dressed as a snowman.
His Lamborghini Huracan crashed into a bin shed outside a home in Balham, south London.
In a 2021 interview, Antonio reflected on the crash, admitting that he had struggled to find affordable insurance after the incident.
He explained that he was forced to choose a much more expensive insurance policy for a G63, stating, “No one wanted to insure me.
I had to go to a specialist insurance company.” Antonio revealed that he opted to pay double the price of insuring an Audi A3 to insure the G63, which he preferred.
The crash occurred due to icy road conditions, and Antonio described how the car skidded as he tried to take a corner. “I was going 30-35mph on a 30mph road.
As it holds corners, I think I don’t need to break,” Antonio recalled. “But as I go round the corner, it skids. So as it skids, I slam on the brakes – the worst thing you could do on ice.” Despite the chaotic circumstances, Antonio humorously shared that he was in a snowman costume, adding, “It’s madness.”
As more details emerge, the club and fans will hope for Antonio’s swift recovery.
