US President Donald Trump’s shift toward closer ties with Russia has prompted members of the Five Eyes alliance and other nations, including Saudi Arabia and Israel, to reconsider intelligence-sharing protocols with Washington, sources claim.
The Five Eyes, comprising Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the US, is regarded as the world’s most significant intelligence-sharing network. Any rift within the alliance could have significant geopolitical consequences.
While no formal decision has been made, sources told NBC that discussions are underway on adjusting intelligence-sharing mechanisms.
Concerns Over US Policy Shift
The Trump administration’s pause in military aid and intelligence support for Ukraine has heightened concerns among allies about a potential pro-Russia shift in US foreign policy.
A Western official said allies are now weighing the implications of what could be a historic shift in global security dynamics.
White House National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes defended Trump’s position, stating:
“President Trump is clear-eyed on all threats our adversaries pose to national security and will work with any ally or partner who understands the dangerous world inherited after the disastrous Biden years.”
NATO Allies Step Up Intelligence Efforts
France has already signaled defiance of the US approach, with French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu confirming that Paris will provide military intelligence to Ukraine independently.
Meanwhile, Britain announced a deal with a defense tech company, Anduril UK, worth £30 million to supply advanced attack drones to Ukrainian forces operating in the Black Sea.
Ukraine Warns of Global Consequences
Reacting to reports of US-Kremlin talks, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK, accused the US of “destroying” the global order.
Speaking at a Chatham House conference, he warned:
“It’s not just Russia and the axis of evil disrupting the system—the US is finally destroying this order.”
He also cautioned that Europe could be Russia’s next target and suggested that NATO itself could collapse if current trends continue.
