Two men who died in a light aircraft crash near a racetrack in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, have been officially named as Edward Browne, 66, and James Litchfield, 64.
The incident occurred at around 11:30 am on Tuesday near the Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Racing Club.
According to Darley Moor officials, the aircraft crash-landed in a farmer’s field next to the sports complex.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but both the pilot, Mr. Browne, and his passenger, Mr. Litchfield, were pronounced dead at the site.
Derbyshire Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and have issued a public appeal for witnesses. They are urging anyone who may have been traveling along the A515 near Darley Moor at the time of the crash to come forward with information.
“Our thoughts remain with the family during this difficult time,” a police spokesperson said.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) confirmed that an inquiry into the crash is underway.
“A multidisciplinary team of inspectors is en route to the site to begin the investigation,” a representative stated.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving the emergency call at 11:25 am.
Initial resources have since been scaled back, but crews from Ashbourne and Wirksworth remain at the scene to assist police officers.
